I grew up by the sea so I have had a lifelong connection with coastal margins and enjoy bleak areas like Dungeness, the Purbecks, Portland Bill and Rye where there are wind blown shacks, huts, lighthouses and quarries.
I have lived in London all my adult life so I am fascinated by the city environment, and the people rushing about in it. I draw commuters, people waiting in bus queues or sitting on a bench, to try to capture the sense of their moments.
I am doing a series on the Environmental Crisis and recently won First Prize in a Mixed Media category for a large painting of crushed plastic bottles.
I often use mixed media and collage in my paintings and prints using news cuttings, maps and tickets etc which gives them a quirky, witty quality.
My work has a lot of variety, so when something inspires me I choose different mediums to express my feelings eg ‘Trump’s Astonishing Journey to the Grave’. I used drawing, collage and print to convey Trump as the US President, a groper and a skull which gives it a rich narrative. Or the painting ‘More Plastic Ahoy’... go see for yourself.
